One day, I took my Great Pyrenees outside and found a Pitbull wandering in my backyard. My family wasn’t sure what to do, so we brought the dog inside to keep it safe, fed it, and cared for it for a few hours until animal control opened. When I finally reached them, they refused to come pick up the dog, claiming it must be ours simply because we brought it inside to help it. That accusation makes no sense, and it felt like an excuse to avoid doing their job. Now I’m unexpectedly responsible for an extra dog. I’ve called every shelter in my area, but either no one is responding, or they’re saying they’re full. It’s frustrating and disheartening this is my first time dealing with something like this, and the people who claim to care most about animal welfare don’t seem to have the urgency the situation deserves. My family can’t afford to take care of another dog. Our Great Pyrenees is already a lot for us, and we want to make sure this animal get the care they need. I’m not trying to sell this dog I’m simply looking for someone who can give this beautiful dog the care and stability we can’t provide right now. Besides all of that, we’ve also posted her on [-] and several other sites to try to find her owner, but we haven’t received any replies. We’ve given her a temporary name, Lola. She seems to be in good health and surprisingly good spirits, and she really doesn’t seem like a bad dog at all. She is a bit food aggressive, and the way she eats makes it seem like she’s had to fight for her meals before she eats extremely fast, like she’s afraid it’ll be taken from her. She’s also not very well potty‑trained, but we’re working on that while she’s in our care. She appears to have what I believe might be a small sty in her eye. We’re not in a position right now to take her to the vet and pay for care as we usually rely on our pet insurance for vet visits, but again, she’s not our at all and can’t pay out of pocket for one. From what I can tell it doesn’t seem to be bothering her though of course I can’t speak for her. She loves attention, cuddles and getting into things, but overall she’s a very sweet girl.
