He sheds far less than you would expect given his luxurious coat. He is most often confused with a Flat-Coated Retriever or a large Boykin Spaniel (but without the goofy oversized ears). He has soulful brown/yellow eyes. For temperament, he is high energy and will gladly chase his ball all day. He is patient for playtime yet relentless once it begins - I’ve literally never seen him tire of playing fetch. He sprints, he jumps, he swims, he dives underwater tirelessly until he gets his ball. He demonstrates the intelligence of the poodle and the focus of the retrievers that form his bloodline. When playtime is over, he’s very sweet and cuddly and his soft coat makes him irresistible to pet. He is a people person and never wants to be out of sight of me - he is my shadow. When out and about, he wants to meet everybody, but he is more protective when at home. He’s an alert watchdog, but settles down quickly when told. He is a happy little lad. As you can tell, we think Gus is a special dog. So special that we can’t bear to have his line end with him. The world would be a better place with more Guses. It would be great to find a mate for him that is similar in appearance but it’s more important to us just that he has an heir.
